Biography
I am Chollapat Chaturongkul, M.D., a practitioner specializing in child and adolescent mental health, as well as family mental health. Practicing medicine since 2005, I have extensive experience in handling cross-cultural cases, primarily involving international students, diplomats’ families, and expatriates living in Thailand.
I grew up in the United States, where I completed my secondary education. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in 2000 and subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 2005 and a Diplomate Board of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2009 in Thailand.
To date, I have nearly 20 years of practice experience, having treated over 20,000 cases. I have a particular interest in treating autistic children, dedicating significant time to investigating
and gaining experience in the area. I am also proficient in addressing other child and adolescent mental health issues, such as ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety, speech delays, school refusal, panic disorders, OCD, and depression.
Throughout my career, I have conducted researches and published numerous articles. Believing that every life deserves a second chance, I have invested a considerable amount of time studying juvenile delinquency and correctional systems. I have worked extensively with families facing hardships and have written articles on teen and adult depression. My deepening involvement in my work led me to recognize the unique potential in every child. Such capacity(ies) shall be recognized early to avoid confusions and mishandling. Consequently, I have authored articles on maximizing children’s potential without misinterpreting it as disobedience or misbehaving.
For nearly 20 years, my diligence and solid clinical experiences have been recognized beyond the local Thai community. Since 2016, key embassies and international schools in Bangkok have entrusted me with the care of their staff and children. In 2018, I was honored with an honorary staff title by the NHS in the UK. In 2019, the Royal Thai government nominated me to serve as an expert member on the National Child Protection Committee of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, a position I still hold.
At the age of 48, I remain vibrant, active, and passionate about my work. I frequently travel to rural areas of Thailand to provide care and support to children and families in need. These travels also allow me to investigate problems faced by people in remote areas and how they strive for the betterment of their lives, particularly in the northern part of Thailand. I have a very strong concern for abandoned children of teen parents, recognizing the need for ongoing guidance and consistent support to shape their future, bringing them up to fully mature and good citizens. My efforts are driven by the basis of the common belief that that a society’s strength is built upon the mental resilience and strength of its people, beginning early in childhood.
